So last night I went to the Phoenix concert in Central Park at the Rumsey Playfield with Seth.  We were all set for a night of bopping around to 1901, Lisztomania, Everything is Everything and Run Run Run with super hipsters in skinny jeans, neon American Apparel and unwashed hair. Turns out though, concerts in Central Park don’t receive the hipsters but more like really annoying  yuppies.  I don’t know why but I was really sad to not see any hipsters.

Seth unimpressed with preppy fatty.
Scared of the guys around me. Seth is flipping them off.

The concert it self was freaking awesome.  They played for about an hour and a half and their set list was full of both new songs and old ones.  They opened with Lisztomania and closed with 1901 (my favorite song).  They sounded great live and had an amazing presence on stage.  PLUS, they are super adoraballs and I may or may not have a crush on each band member.  Why? They’re French, in an awesome band, French, band, marginally cute, band…umm yeah. Anyway. Phoenix in concert. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it. You won’t be sorry.

Thomas Mars, Vocals (Fun Fact: Has a kid with Sofia Coppola and UPDATE: Dating Mary-Louise Parker? Homeboy knows how to pick the ladies. UPDATE #2: Meredith has brought it to my attention that I can’t read and MLP is dating a Mars with a different first name.  High five me.)
Deck D’Arcy, Bass (Wait, is that lipstick?)

Laurent Brancowitz, Guitar (So French. So Awesome.)

Christian Mazzalai - Guitar (Not the cutest, but Id still hit it)

A Playlist Can Make All The Difference

Last night I made a play list.  Usually I spend hours (and I mean hours) going through and picking songs to make sure they fit the right mood/season/outfit/hair style but last night I just threw a bunch of albums on there that I wanted to listen to.  Result: pure magic.  Most of the bands were recommended from thedith, some from Nylon, Pitchfork, or other friends.  Anyway, the moral of the story is that I should listen to whole albums more often.

Movie Trailers, I Love You

The people who put together movie trailers really don’t get enough credit.  Seriously, putting together a bunch of clips to a probably shitty movie, and making it look good? That’s a gift.  And so it is with New York, I Love You, a movie comprised of a series of vignettes directed by a series of directors, staring a series of actors — all set in the city of New York. An idea completely ripped off of the delightfully charming Paris, Je T’aimeNew York, I Love you has a lot of buzz around it — but not exactly good buzz.  In fact, it’s generally agreed that this movie is going to kind of suck hard when it comes out this autumn. And yet, after watching this trailer, I will see it.

New York, I Love You trailer, I love you.  Let me count the ways: Natalie Portman, Shia LaBouef, Bradley Cooper, Central Park in the fall, Phoenix on the soundtrack…

For kicks and giggles, the trailer for Paris, Je T’aime (which also starred Natalie Portman):

Music You Should Dig

Phoenix.  They’re awesome. They’re French (don’t worry, they sing in English…) if you like Air, MGMT, and, I don’t know, good music? You’ll dig them. I don’t think I really need to say anything more than that.

Phoenix’ latest album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix came out in May and has been on pretty heavy rotation on my itunes ever since — it should be on yours too.
