Someone on Facebook posted a link to this site called Incredibox and, being the inquisitive person that I am, I clicked through to check it out. A half hour later, I came to the conclusion that this is in the top 10 of my favorite music websites. At first I had no idea what it was and I had to play around with it by dragging the little arrows and circle-ish items from the bottom up to the cartoon guys but then I realized that I was making my own beatbox. I could add elements of instruments, percussion, chorus, effects and more. You can mix it up move them around and create totally original sounds. Mer and I spent a good part of our days playing with this. Yay, bi-coastal, global fun!
So last night I went to the Phoenix concert in Central Park at the Rumsey Playfield with Seth. We were all set for a night of bopping around to 1901, Lisztomania, Everything is Everything and Run Run Run with super hipsters in skinny jeans, neon American Apparel and unwashed hair. Turns out though, concerts in Central Park don’t receive the hipsters but more like really annoying yuppies. I don’t know why but I was really sad to not see any hipsters.
Seth unimpressed with preppy fatty.
I am scared of the guys around me. Seth is flipping them off.
The concert it self was freaking awesome. They played for about an hour and a half and their set list was full of both new songs and old ones. They opened with Lisztomania and closed with 1901 (my favorite song). They sounded great live and had an amazing presence on stage. PLUS, they are super adoraballs and I may or may not have a crush on each band member. Why? They’re French, in an awesome band, French, band, marginally cute, band…umm yeah. Anyway. Phoenix in concert. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it. You won’t be sorry.
Thomas Mars, Vocals (Fun Fact: Has a kid with Sofia Coppola and UPDATE: Dating Mary-Louise Parker? Homeboy knows how to pick the ladies. UPDATE #2: Meredith has brought it to my attention that I can’t read and MLP is dating a Mars with a different first name. High five me.)
Deck D’Arcy, Bass (Wait, is that lipstick?)
Laurent Brancowitz, Guitar (So French. So Awesome.)
Christian Mazzalai - Guitar (Not the cutest, but I'd still hit it. He's French.)
So, it should come as no surprise that I’m currently digging Plastiscines, a band of four rockin’ chicks with catchy songs, perfect bangs, and who are, oh yeah, French. Plastiscines are on tour now, with a new Album called Barcelona. The title track is even in English. Check ’em out on Myspace. Here’s a music video:
