So last night I went to the Phoenix concert in Central Park at the Rumsey Playfield with Seth. We were all set for a night of bopping around to 1901, Lisztomania, Everything is Everything and Run Run Run with super hipsters in skinny jeans, neon American Apparel and unwashed hair. Turns out though, concerts in Central Park don’t receive the hipsters but more like really annoying yuppies. I don’t know why but I was really sad to not see any hipsters.

The concert it self was freaking awesome. They played for about an hour and a half and their set list was full of both new songs and old ones. They opened with Lisztomania and closed with 1901 (my favorite song). They sounded great live and had an amazing presence on stage. PLUS, they are super adoraballs and I may or may not have a crush on each band member. Why? They’re French, in an awesome band, French, band, marginally cute, band…umm yeah. Anyway. Phoenix in concert. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it. You won’t be sorry.
- Thomas Mars, Vocals (Fun Fact: Has a kid with Sofia Coppola and UPDATE: Dating Mary-Louise Parker? Homeboy knows how to pick the ladies. UPDATE #2: Meredith has brought it to my attention that I can’t read and MLP is dating a Mars with a different first name. High five me.)

Dave Matthews Band. Man, did I love them. My camp counselor introduced me to them in fifth grade and my life was never the same (My life might have also changed due to the fact that my bunk did a song and dance number to “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in front of the whole camp, but that’s another story.) I loved all his albums from then on–I actually didn’t like Crash at first, but eventually grew to like it. However, after the Lillywhite Sessions album, by fandom decreased. I couldn’t even get into Everyday. Sure, they had a few good songs here and there, but nothing like the 90’s era hits. I don’t want to go to a concert now because I don’t want to hear the new stuff, just the oldies but goodies. Those concerts were epic. The tailgating, the cloud of smoke above Alpine Valley, insane amounts of hemp and tie-dye. Man, those were great. Concerts now though are filled with the grown up versions of hippies and are far less fun. If I could time travel back to the 90’s, I would do three things: rock out on my
