What happens when you take the most annoying song ever — Crazy by Knarles Barkley — and have one of the best grunge bands from the 80s/90s — Violent Femmes — to ever record a song (maybe) about masturbation or kicking heroin (nobody really knows…) — Blister in the Sun? Give up?

So last night I went to the Phoenix concert in Central Park at the Rumsey Playfield with Seth.  We were all set for a night of bopping around to 1901, Lisztomania, Everything is Everything and Run Run Run with super hipsters in skinny jeans, neon American Apparel and unwashed hair. Turns out though, concerts in Central Park don’t receive the hipsters but more like really annoying  yuppies.  I don’t know why but I was really sad to not see any hipsters.

Seth unimpressed with preppy fatty.
Scared of the guys around me. Seth is flipping them off.
I am scared of the guys around me. Seth is flipping them off.

The concert it self was freaking awesome.  They played for about an hour and a half and their set list was full of both new songs and old ones.  They opened with Lisztomania and closed with 1901 (my favorite song).  They sounded great live and had an amazing presence on stage.  PLUS, they are super adoraballs and I may or may not have a crush on each band member.  Why? They’re French, in an awesome band, French, band, marginally cute, band…umm yeah. Anyway. Phoenix in concert. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it. You won’t be sorry.

Thomas Mars, Vocals (Fun Fact: Has a kid with Sofia Coppola and UPDATE: Dating Mary-Louise Parker? Homeboy knows how to pick the ladies. UPDATE #2: Meredith has brought it to my attention that I can’t read and MLP is dating a Mars with a different first name.  High five me.)
Deck D’Arcy, Bass (Wait, is that lipstick?)

Laurent Brancowitz, Guitar (So French. So Awesome.)

Christian Mazzalai - Guitar (Not the cutest, but Id still hit it)

All Yr Songs

I’ve been listening to this song on loop today. Why today of all days? Who knows. Probably something to do with not being on vacation anymore.  [Ed note: Dear fog, go fuck yourself.]

I do know that listening to “All Yr Songs” on loop has been keeping me from diving head-first into the pile of clothes on the floor of my closet. Suffocation by denim seems like a rough way to go…

Sometimes Actors Make Good Music

The actor in question today is Jason Schwartzman.  He performs under the name Coconut Records even though it’s a solo effort. Schwartzman’s second album, Nighttiming, came out earlier this year and I’m really digging it.  The music is a little indie but upbeat and not whiney (I’m looking at you Scarlet Johansson).  I think what I like most about is that he includes my girl crush Zooey Deschanel on one of his tracks, Ask Her to Dance.  Granted, it’s kind of slow, but I mean, it’s ZOOEY (and she has already proven to be an established singer and actress).  Anyway, I’m totally crunching on this album and you should too.

I Like When Things that Don’t Belong Together, Come Together

MSTRKRFT and John Legend recorded a track together? Crazy, I know.  But the result, actually really kind of works.  I’m a sucker for a dope beat, and this my friends, is a pretty good beat (I mean, hello, it is MSTRKRFT).

Below, the video for “Heartbreaker”.  After watching this, I realized I really don’t spend as much time in The Mission as I should.
