It’s Thanksgiving Weekend, What Am I Doing?

Watching Three Men and a Baby of course. True or False: I totally loved this movie when I was 5.   Of course I did.  As I’m watching it now, I clearly had no idea that it was about three guys who were total man sluts.  One of them being Steve Guttenberg. I was such a weird girl.

I just saw a midnight screening of New Moon. Yeah. I was one of those girls. One of the many.  Over 2500 screens were sold out tonight. So there. Anyway. Here’s a quick and honest opinion of what I thought of the movie and experience. Continue reading

WITCHES ARE COMING TO HOLLYWOOD!

It looks like someone read my post about witches becoming the new vampires.  Since mythical creatures aren’t going away anytime soon, Dreamworks just scooped up the rights to what they hope will take over when the vampire craze dies out–Witches!

The story is about Holly Cathers, a teenager who discovers that she’s the descendant of a coven of witches and then falls in love with a witch from a rival coven.  Yep, this movie has tween written all over it and I couldn’t be more excited. Sure, the plot is thin, trite and and the success of the it lays in the hands of the casting director, but I’ll be following the updates closely.  Witches! Special powers! Flying! So awesome!

I Saw This

So, I can cross seeing Hayao Miyzaki’s Ponyo off my to do list.  While I can’t say that I really understood what was going on in the movie — despite the fact that all the voices were done by English speaking actors, and everything was in English…it sure was fun to look at.  The movie was all traditional, hand-drawn animation.  And the backgrounds were done in colored pencil and pastels which was really awesome.   I’m forced to make the conclusion that the stellar reviews it got from The New York Times, The New Yorker, et al. were based on the fact that the images were brilliant — not the storyline.

I’m Always 2000 and Late

Plus, I heard the book is better than the movie

Always late to the party, I juuuust saw Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist.  Everyone told me it was really bad, but actually? I kind of liked it.  Similar to when I saw Along Came Polly, I was expecting a train wreck of a movie, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t hate it. In fact, I’m going to go on record here and say that I maybe kind of liked it.  Okay, no, I did.  Got me.  Michael Cera and Kat Dennings did it for me (geek and girl crush, respectively), and the soundtrack was pretty legit for the most part.  Maybe I downloaded half of it.  So, what?

I think I learned a valuable lesson about life from watching this movie. The key is, in life, you should just always have low expectations, so that way when you experience something, you appreciate the fact that at least it wasn’t as bad as you imagined it would be.  Or something…

Yes, I already have tickets and am seeing it tonight.  No big deal.

UPDATE:  it was everything I hoped it’d be in more and DEAR LORD Chris Pine was extremely good looking.  Zachary Quinto was an amazing Spock. I will probably see it again next weekend.  The two of them were on SNL last night too.  All I can say is, SIGH.

More Like “Clockwork Sucks”…

Is it 2:30am on a Friday night/Saturday morning? Have you had a couple glasses of wine and some vodka tonics, wandered around the city, and given several different strangers several different aliases and phone numbers? Do you want to cap off the night with a movie you “borrowed” from the apartment your friend is house sitting?  If you ever find yourself in this circumstance, let me offer a friendly suggestion on what movie NOT to take…

Seriously, don’t do it.

Too Much Hugh [Possible Spoiler Alert?]

sick_in_bedAfter spending three straight days sitting on my couch with the flu, I got really stir crazy today.  I guess that’s when you know you’re getting better–sitting on the couch has little to no appeal to you anymore.  So, what did I decide to do with my new freedom from the love seat?  I decided to go see Wolverine, which meant going to sit in another place for two hours.  Now that I think about it, that seems like the opposite thing to do to combat stir-craziness, but I’m still technically sick, so, oh well.

Moving on. Wolverine was a fun movie.  I mean, I was expecting a blockbuster/action type film and it came through–lots of fight scenes, a few explosions, a chase sequence, making out.  If you’re a girl or guy who loves Hugh Jackman, then this movie is for you.  Me?  I’m still not a Hugh fan.  I mean, he’s cute, but…meh.

There could have been more of pretty much the entire bottom row and the guy in the middle on the top row. The girl next to him was pretty, she can come too.

My bigger disappointment was with the lack of supporting characters.  I mean I realize that they’re supporting for a reason, but like I could have totally gone for a few minutes more of Riggins (one day I promise I’ll call him by his actual name), Ryan and heck even Charlie from Lost.

Anyway, Wolverine is an entertaining movie and I highly suggest seeing it if you want some good ‘ole blockbuster fun. Or some shirtless Hugh Jackman.
