Movie Trailers, I Love You

The people who put together movie trailers really don’t get enough credit.  Seriously, putting together a bunch of clips to a probably shitty movie, and making it look good? That’s a gift.  And so it is with New York, I Love You, a movie comprised of a series of vignettes directed by a series of directors, staring a series of actors — all set in the city of New York. An idea completely ripped off of the delightfully charming Paris, Je T’aimeNew York, I Love you has a lot of buzz around it — but not exactly good buzz.  In fact, it’s generally agreed that this movie is going to kind of suck hard when it comes out this autumn. And yet, after watching this trailer, I will see it.

New York, I Love You trailer, I love you.  Let me count the ways: Natalie Portman, Shia LaBouef, Bradley Cooper, Central Park in the fall, Phoenix on the soundtrack…

For kicks and giggles, the trailer for Paris, Je T’aime (which also starred Natalie Portman):

I treated myself to a movie date with myself today.  The movie was good, and I was maybe (maybe) the best date I’ve ever had.  This post isn’t about my hot date with myself though.  It’s about the previews I saw while I was on a hot date with myself. And, one in trailer in particular caught my attention…I’d heard a lot about Ponyo, the latest film from Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away), but today was the first time I actually saw the trailer.  Color me excited.  It’ll be nice to see traditional hand-drawn animation on the big screen for a change. You can watch the trailer online at Apple Trailers, by clicking HERE. Who wants to go see this with me? Preferably high.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

While we’re at it, Tron Legacy (also in 3-D) came out with a new trailer this weekend at Comic Con.  Being a sucker for a) action movies b) 80’s kitch c) bright shiny things and d) anything 3-D, I will be seeing this.  But, perhaps the coolest thing about the Tron sequel, is that Daft Punk is providing the soundtrack.  What’s that? Did you just pee your pants a little too? Can Summer 2010 just get here already?

Watch the trailer for Tron 2 at IGN Video.

Question: Why is every movie in 3-D these days?

Answer: Who cares?

More importantly,  the trailer for the new Alice in Wonderland movie starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton has been online for the past few days. Aw-e-soo-me.

I’m Not Really a “Fashionista”

But I do work in magazines and I’m soooo excited for The September Issue, which is a documentary of Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue.  The September issue is usually the biggest issue in terms of Ad sales for all magazines, but Vogue‘s is always the biggest, last year’s came in at a whopping 972 pages.  Working on the publishing side, I see all that goes into getting ads for September, which means the edit side must be even more hectic because they have to produce a book that’s worth reading…if you can find the edit between all the ad pages.

Anyway, as someone who would love to look as fashionable as the models in Vogue and the girls who work there, I’m really looking forward to the movie.  They seem to go behind the scenes, really talk to Anna, who appears to be exactly how Meryll Streep portrayed her in The Devil Wears Prada.  At one point in the preview she says, “This type is so large and pretentious. It looks like it’s for blind people.”  I mean, come on.  How can this not be amazing?

The crush on Jo-Go started when he appeared in 10 Things I Hated About You.  He was under the radar for a while but now he’s back in what I hope to be a great RomCom of the summer, aptly titled 500 Days of Summer. I mean, it has Zooey Deschanel.  How can it not be awesome?

This is what we actually look like when we blog.

This is what we actually look like when we blog.

Earlier Meredith mentioned her excitement for the Star Trek movie and I totally mirror that sentiment.  I grew up with an older brother who forced me to watch Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, so I got into the show.  (High five sibling bonding time via television.)  Anyway, thanks to him I am a sci-fi nerd which means that in addition to being stoked about Star Trek, I’m also psyched for Wolverine, which comes out this weekend. It’ll be cool to see how Logan got turned into a mutant as well as a young Cyclops who can’t control his crazy laser eyes.

I’m not really a big Hugh Jackman fan, I mean he’s cute and has an accent, but eh, doesn’t really do it for me.  But you know who does?  TIM RIGGINS.  Yeah, Taylor Kitsch is in this movie with that sexy southern drawl.  Also featured?  Ryan Reynolds.  Mmhmm. So in terms of the man candy that the movie execs bring in so that girls will see the movie?  I’m sold.

Here’s the preview so you can get into it too.  Seriously?  This movie is gonna be SO GOOD.

While We’re Geeking Out Here

Here’s a movie I’m really stoked about seeing.  Yeah, it’s Star Trek, no, I’m not ashamed to admit I can’t wait until it comes out.  Here’s the trailer.

Don’t even get me STARTED on Transformers 2
