I Mean, I Love a Good Vampire Movie/Show But…

Posted in geeking out, opinions with tags , , , , , , , , , on October 8, 2009 by melsanie

Can Witches be the new Vampires? There’s a pretty bad-ass one in the Vampire Diaries that all the tweens (and clearly myself) are watching and you know what? If done correctly, witches are awesome.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m super psyched for New Moon (coming out November 20) and I watched True Blood religiously, but I want to see some kick-ass witches and wizards.  Harry Potter and the crew are fun and I love them and all but I want some some witches from The Craft. Let’s bring THOSE bitches back.  But, maybe rein in part of the crazy?  That got a little out of control.

You know how not to bring back witches?  Ask ABC who did a remake of Witches of Eastwick.  That show is horrible  It is neither sexy, catty nor dramatic.  It is sooooo boring.  I’ve given it three tries and I’m yawning.  The main characters are too old.  I want it to happen, I really do, but if there are going to be witches and wizards they need to be young and agile and…hot.  Sorry, Rebecca Romaign, you’re not witch material–you’re past your prime. Could be their teacher like Professor McGonagall?  Sure, but not a main witch, that’s for sure.

Moral of the story: MORE MAGIC!!!!!  WITCHES FOR 2010!!

Nerd Venn Diagram

As you can see, based off of this Venn Diagram, I am always a dork; oftentimes a nerd; and, sometimes a dweeb (depending on the intelligence level of who I’m hanging out with).  Luckily, I’m never a geek.  But, I mean, that was something we all knew already.

I don’t understand the remarkableness of the observations found in the following quote:

Video games. Greasy tacos. Wisecracks about scoring government-sanctioned weed. Meeting Mila Kunis gives you a glimpse of what might’ve happened if the Phoebe Cates character in Fast Times at Ridgemont High had somehow spawned a child with Jeff Spicoli.

Because:

a) Up until recently, I was operating under the assumption that all girls were like this.  Apparently they’re not? Go figure.  Well, all the ones I know are…Which leads me to…

b) Why do guys think it’s suuuch a crazy thing when girls act like this? Hello, we’re not all Paris Hiltonwannabes watching the Lifetime Channel, while gorging ourselves on Ben & Jerry’s, scheming to hook ourselves a man.  We don’t all want to date Jon Gosselin just to end up in the pages of US Weekly.  Many of us would never be caught dead watching any movie starring Kate Hudson, or, let’s face it, worse: Sandra Bullock.

So cheers, Mila Kunis.  I salute you for staying nerdy, eating greasy Mexican food, getting high, and dating my childhood crush, Macaulay Culkin.  Stay gold, Ponyboy.

And oh, Details magazine: go fuck yourself.

While we’re at it, Tron Legacy (also in 3-D) came out with a new trailer this weekend at Comic Con.  Being a sucker for a) action movies b) 80’s kitch c) bright shiny things and d) anything 3-D, I will be seeing this.  But, perhaps the coolest thing about the Tron sequel, is that Daft Punk is providing the soundtrack.  What’s that? Did you just pee your pants a little too? Can Summer 2010 just get here already?

Watch the trailer for Tron 2 at IGN Video.

I can’t wait until this comes out*.  It’s like Guitar Hero, but with a turntable.  You’ll be able to:

scratch, cross-fade, and beat match. Customize your mix with a variety of effects and samples.”

Annnnnd according to USA Today:

“In addition to single-DJ action, two players can compete or play cooperatively….The game spans hip-hop, electronica, R&B, soul and pop/rock with songs by 50 Cent, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, Blondie, N.E.R.D., Gorillaz and David Bowie. Superstar DJs such as DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip and DJ AM will contribute, too.”

I just jizzed my pants thinking about it.

*Thanks, to Cristina, who actually went to E3 last month (because she’s awesome) for the initial heads up.

Yes, I already have tickets and am seeing it tonight.  No big deal.

UPDATE:  it was everything I hoped it’d be in more and DEAR LORD Chris Pine was extremely good looking.  Zachary Quinto was an amazing Spock. I will probably see it again next weekend.  The two of them were on SNL last night too.  All I can say is, SIGH.

This is what we actually look like when we blog.

This is what we actually look like when we blog.

Earlier Meredith mentioned her excitement for the Star Trek movie and I totally mirror that sentiment.  I grew up with an older brother who forced me to watch Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, so I got into the show.  (High five sibling bonding time via television.)  Anyway, thanks to him I am a sci-fi nerd which means that in addition to being stoked about Star Trek, I’m also psyched for Wolverine, which comes out this weekend. It’ll be cool to see how Logan got turned into a mutant as well as a young Cyclops who can’t control his crazy laser eyes.

I’m not really a big Hugh Jackman fan, I mean he’s cute and has an accent, but eh, doesn’t really do it for me.  But you know who does?  TIM RIGGINS.  Yeah, Taylor Kitsch is in this movie with that sexy southern drawl.  Also featured?  Ryan Reynolds.  Mmhmm. So in terms of the man candy that the movie execs bring in so that girls will see the movie?  I’m sold.

Here’s the preview so you can get into it too.  Seriously?  This movie is gonna be SO GOOD.

Here’s a movie I’m really stoked about seeing.  Yeah, it’s Star Trek, no, I’m not ashamed to admit I can’t wait until it comes out.  Here’s the trailer.

Don’t even get me STARTED on Transformers 2
