There I was, it was a typical night, I was lying in bed watching episodes of Full House on Youtube, when the thought struck me — how do I dress with as much style as Stephanie Tanner? Answer: You don’t.  But this got me thinking; if we’re going to bring the 90’s back, which, I think we’ve all accepted in this new decade to do,  where do we draw our nostalgic influence from? Answer: 90’s tween/teen stars.  Follow me!

“That’s what I like about your generation.  You guys aren’t afraid to wear really stupid things.” — Caitlin’s dad.

Okay, I know I made fun of faux-fur hats when I was in New York; I saw them everywhere, and they look ugly and retarded.  That being said, now that I’m back in San Francisco, and no one wears fur hats, all the sudden, I MUST have one.  I mean, I know it rarely gets cold enough even to see your breath here (actually, more the reason to want one), but mark my words, faux-fur hat is going to be my first “WTF, you’re an idiot. You know you can’t buy groceries this week now, right?” purchase of 2010.

Feeling Sassy?

I love Snuggies/Slankets, because I’m often bundled up beneath a blanket, trying to watch tv, read a book, or reach for the remote, and I need to be able to use my hands. But let’s face it, while great for lounging, you can’t really schlep around town in a blanket with sleeves.  That’s why I’m glad they invented the Necky. They help protect my neck and chest from the cold, without the annoying gaps of regular scarves! Perfect for taking a walk in the woods, bundling the kids up for school, and enjoying the big game! It even comes in Designer Leopard Print, for when you’re feeling sassy! Don’t believe me? Watch, below:

*Note: I’m not in any way getting paid to promote the Necky, I’m just a fan of this commercial. And designer leopard print.

Fashion Week Recap

One of my favorite looks by Jason Wu

  1. High heels are a must at all times. ALL.TIMES.
  2. The weirder you look, the more your picture will be taken.
  3. Male models, though cute, are not the best runway walkers.
  4. Anna Wintour is more intimidating in person, which is awesome.
  5. The love of fashion is contagious but fashion sense is not.
  6. The tents are really hot and fans or a cooling system are a must because sweat is the worst accessory. Ha.
  7. I felt way too entitled this week.
  8. In order to feel entitled I need to attend a fashion show party and sit closer to the runway.
  9. Favorite collections: Oscar de la Renta, Milly by Michelle, Jason Wu, Max Azria, Christian Siriano, Sophie Theallet
  10. I went to the tents more than once and neither developed an eating nor a body image issue.  I see that as a huge win.

IMG00243-20090911-1514So I’ve lived in New York for about three years now and all this time I have never taken part in any fashion activities so this year I figured I should at least see what all the hubbub is about.  I should mention that it helps that I also have a contact at IMG who got me into fashion shows.  Lesson here kids: it’s never what you know, it’s who you know. Don’t stay in school, just learn how to mingle and fake a degree from an Ivy League or at least FIT.
