My Favorite Arrested Development Episode*

So Meredith and I are big Arrested Development fans on this blog.  After watching a few episodes this weekend I’ve come to the conclusion that the “Let ‘Em Eat Cake” which is the season finale of the first season might be my favorite episode–or at least one of my favorites.  After the jump, you’ll see why. 

Ten Reasons Why I Love This Episode

1. This entire monologue  by Gob: The zero hour, Michael. It’s the end of the line. I’m the firstborn. Sick of playing second fiddle. Always third in line for everything. Tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. [thinks for a moment] There are six things I’m mad about, and I’m taking over.
2. Setting the tone of Tobias being gay but not really? with his book The Man Inside Me, which was expected to “sell millions” but didn’t even though he changed all pronouns to the masculine “he” at the reading.
3. Same with Barry the lawyer and how he got poison oak.
4. Gob: Nothing works in this house.
   Michael: Tell me about it.
   Lindsay Funke: Is that a shot at me?
   Gob: Probably.
   Lindsay Funke: Because for your information, I got a job.
   Michael: Really? What kind of job?
   Lindsay Funke: Beads.
   Gob: Bees?
   Lindsay Funke: Beads.
   Gob: Beads?
   Michael: Gob’s not on board.
5. The introduction of Bland, even though they didn’t use the same actress in the second season.
6. The introduction of the Literal Doctor.
7. Everyone is on the Atkins Diet and that ends up being the reason why everything falls apart. George Sr.: I’m going to get a lethal injection because my son won’t eat a potato.
8. The return of Kitty aka Judy Grier (seriously, someone give her a real job – sidekick/best friend doesn’t count)
9. “I didn’t even know we were calling him big bear.”
10. Gob: I’m in charge now. I speak for this family. I mean … I could if you wanted me to. I’d rather not, obviously. Don’t know what I’d say. Why do I have to be the one? I don’t need this. Why does this have to become my problem? No, I’m out. Forget it. Find somebody else. I’m sick of it. I’m sick of doing everything for this family.
